Success is more than just a matter of what you’ve done; it starts with the way that you think. One of the key measures of a person’s success comes from their character, which results from how they think and behave. Before you can be your most successful self, it may be helpful to adopt the following thought processes.
See endings as opportunities
Failures, rejection, and closures need not be the end of the line for you. Instead, think of it as a redirect. Usually, there is a reason for things ending, and often times the reason is that the original opportunity wasn’t as good as you thought it was. The right position in which you could truly thrive and make an impact would not give you the opportunity to leave, and thus you’ll realize that endings are not a judgment of character and are instead a new opportunity for you to better align with your goals.
Question everything
Curiosity will help safeguard you from complacency, so you’ll be better able to reach your fullest potential. Ask why things are structured the way they are. Question its necessity. Seek out other ways of doing things. By questioning what exists, we afford ourselves the chance to make innovation and change.
Seek out new information
Acquiring knowledge is how you invest in yourself. Knowledge will help you to advance; without it, you won’t get much further than you are now. A key trait of highly successful people is that they see themselves as lifelong students. By opening yourself up to constant learning and new information, you will pave the way to mastery.
Ask to be corrected
Another habit of highly successful people is that they surround themselves with people that are more skilled, knowledgeable, and/or talented than themselves. In doing so, they hold themselves to a higher standard of performance and character. The growth process for this is not easy, as it requires you to give up some of your ego. Letting yourself be corrected helps you to be more adaptable, that is, you become someone who is willing to see a problem for what it is and make change accordingly.
Prioritize Structure
With success comes a regaining of time and freedom, but this doesn’t mean that you should give up structure. Structure is essential to succeed. It ensures that certain protocols are met and that nothing is overlooked. Prioritizing structure doesn’t mean that every little thing needs to be planned out; it can be as simple as a weekly review meeting with your staff or even the way you organize your morning.
